The city dweller cannot provide their veggies and fruit nutrition diet with the products that are completely pesticides free. They are widely used these days.  According to a Food and Drug Administration study there are certain fruits   and vegetables that contain between 47 to 67 different sorts of pesticides per serving.

Those, mainly have edible, porous skin. For instance grapefruit or orange skin is thick. We do not eat the peel because of their bitter taste, however we eat the skin of peaches and so ingest pesticides. The other group  exposed to the pesticides is leafy vegetables. Washing them can help, though not much.

Today there are many kinds of pesticides for literally every pest you can imagine. Though there is a controversy with regard to their use due to health concerns because of eating foods with pesticides by so many people.
They are used to repel or prevent pests such as insects, microbes, birds etc. from destroying the crop, spread diseases or damaging fruit trees and plants.

As long as about 45 per cent, according to USDA, of the world’s crops are lost due to damage, many farmers rely on pesticides. Constantly growing world population also taxes on food supply chains which in turn compromise on food quality and healthy food production standards.

There are organizations responsible for determining the acceptable amount of pesticides in products to be consumed by the public. Your grocery store has an allowed level of them in its fruits and veggies stock. Therefore those of you, who want to go on with their vegetable, fruit nutrition and plant based diet, may accept them as safe.
